摘要The fossil-genus Adiantites G & ouml;ppert emend. Kidston, 1923 is a widespread foliage taxon and a typical component of the early Carboniferous floras. However, the distribution of this genus in the South China Block remains unclear, as the documentation of various species in previous works has relied on limited materials. Herein, we describe a new Mississippian species, Adiantites lilingensis sp. nov. from the Zhangshuwan Formation of Hunan Province, China, based on over 100 compression specimens. This species shows tripinnate fronds, with slender rachises and large obovate, cuneate or wedge-shaped pinnules. Our materials confirm the occurrence of Adiantites in the South China Block and demonstrate variations in frond and pinnule morphology within this fossil-genus.
